The 2013 NITOP Technology Workshops

Success with PowerPoint

PRECONFERENCE WORKSHOP:

Mastering Technology for the Teaching of Psychology

William S. Altman
David S. Berg
David B. Miller

Discover how you can use technologies to enhance your face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses.  This integrated set of workshops will help both new and experienced users develop new skills, and gain confidence in using the latest available tools and techniques.  These workshops will also help you find productive ways to integrate these new tools into your work.  We'll begin by discussing the issues and opportunities for using technology to enhance our teaching, research,  and communications.  Then, we'll break into hands-on work groups so you can concentrate on the particular technologies that interest you. The individual modules for this session will be: Integrating the iPad into the workflow of your professional academic life (with David Berg), Podcasting and screencasting basics (with David Miller), and Creating exciting, pain-free PowerPoint presentations (with Bill Altman).  You're encouraged to bring your laptop computers and iPads, as well as your own class or presentation materials to work on during the sessions.  We'll also hold an evening session (optional and open to all NITOP participants) on Thursday, where you'll be able to develop more advanced skills, or explore other aspects of technology for teaching.

The three technology-specific modules wil run concurrently, so that you'll be able to work on your particular area of interest. Modules for this session will be:

In each of these modules, you'll gain a set of new skills, and the confidence to apply them in your teaching.  We hope that you'll also work on some of your existing course materials.

We encourage you to bring your laptop computers and iPads, and materials to work on during the sessions.  The information about iPad tools and screencasting will extend and build on some of the work done in the pre-conference technology workshop, but that workshop is not a prerequisite for this evening session, which is open to everyone.
